Closed Open-mindedness
I have come to a startling realization. First of all, I would like to say that I consider myself to be a fairly open-minded person. I have my moral values which I hold to without question, but I am open to change for the most part. I believe that following something blindly will lead to trouble somewhere down the line. I have realized that I, along with many other so-called open-minded people, tend to be a tad bit closed-minded about our being open-minded. Paradox you say? No, not really. It is more of an oxymoron. You see, we exercise our right to think how we wish to think and others have the same right, but as soon as someone displays being closed-minded, we instantly begin berating them for their narrow view of the world. Is closed-mindedness problematic? It tends to be, though it can protect a person from certain things. Does this give us the right to tell them that they cannot be close minded? Sure, if we wish to be close minded as well. We have every right to think and be the way we wish to be, but the moment we turn around and say that everyone must have that same freedom, we are taking away those very freedoms we cling to. It is human nature after all, I suppose, to want to be right all the time. We all want to be God, even the Christians somewhere deep within their hearts want to be God. That is what makes us choose to sin when we know that it is wrong. The fruit that Adam and Eve ate has poisoned us all. If God is our standard of morality, than he is essentially the essence of good, and evil is the opposite. By choosing wrong, or by believing in ethical relativism, you are basically saying that you are the standard of right and wrong, therefore placing yourself as God in your own mind. By being close minded by trying to force your views on other people, you are declaring yourself the basis of their morality, which is placing yourself in the place of God.

NaNo WriMo
That's right, I'm going to be participating in the National Novel Writing Month this year. For those of you that don't know what that is, thousands of people around the world will attempt to write a 50,000+ word story during the month of November. The website is nanowrimo.org if you'd like to learn more about it or even participate. My screen name on there is captainfenris, though I'm not sure how often I'll be updating on there. I'll probably post excerpts on deviatART from time to time. captain-fenris.deviantart.com

THIS IS... Belhaven...
First off, let me say that I am feeling much better, and am convinced it was just a little cold. That being said, on to more important things.
Lately I have been learning about the Ancient Greeks. Greek art, Greek literature, Greek history; Greek, Greek, Greek. Well, what better way to carry that over into my entertainment than to watch the greatest movie ever that contains Greeks: 300. Yes, a small group of other students and I watched 300 tonight, and it. Was. EPIC!!! Well, that much being said, my room is finally clean, just in time for open hall, and I have to become an expert on Alexander the Great by Monday. Much fun :)

Bleck :P
I'm not feeling well atm. I'm coming down with what I believe to be a head cold, but I'm not sure. I've been taking some medicine to try to combat the illness. Now I just have to wait, and hope that it blows over by Sunday. Tests coming up in Literature and Art tomorrow, got an A on my first History test, and I'm confident in my performance on today's English test(I almost wrote yesterday's English test. It's been a slow day.) Right now I'm about to head to bed to try and sleep it off, praying I'll be better in the morning.

Update
So I've actually put this off because, sadly, I didn't make it past the first round, and the reasons, kind of bothered me. I'm not really going to go into it, but I feel like I should have won, but whatever. Had my first history test Monday, and I feel like I did a pretty good job. Apart from that there's nothing really worth noting academic wise.
We're having an open hall in the men's dorms sometime next week. I have no idea what we're gonna do, but hey, we'll figure it out as we go along :P
Still waiting for them to start up the Flag Football Intramural, but they're in the middle of Volleyball right now I think. Food's not bad imo, but apparently there aren't a whole lot that agree with that sentiment. Found a group to roll dice with, 2nd edition advanced, but still. Don't know when, or even if it's going to be a fixed schedule, or just whenever we have time that week, which will make things interesting.
That's about all that I can think of for now. I'll post again when I've something relevant to say.

Labor Day Weekend
So I get a long weekend for Labor Day, but I was so far behind on homework that I haven't really gotten to enjoy it much. But now I'm down to two projects left, and they're writing projects so I shouldn't have a problem. I'm probably going to break the rules and do one or both of them tomorrow... >:)
I'm still waiting for a package my mom sent to arrive in the mail. She sent it Friday I think, but the mailroom isn't open on the weekends, so I have to wait until Tuesday. But from Tuesday onward to an undefined point in time, I shall be rocking out to Skillet in my dorm. Sorry, Adam, but Owl City and Underoath can wait!
I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do this weekend, other than enter the Intramural Pool tournament they're holding the The Corner Pocket tomorrow. I'll probably have an entry after that's done, though, to let you guys know how I did. Current prediction: I'll be pleasantly surprised if I make it past the first round.

I know it's been a few days, but I've had a lot of studying to do lately. I got to go to my first College football game though, which was fun, but extremely frustrating, because I knew the moment that someone made a mistake. And they were playing an NCAA Division II team, and we're not even in the NCAA, so we were at a disadvantage and lost 43-3... sound familiar anybody?
My roommate, Adam, decided to go visit his family in Louisiana this past weekend, and invited me along. So I spent the weekend at his parent's house, and Saturday night had to put up with his room being taken over by, of all things, what he calls 'The Horde'. His younger brother's group of gamer friends that gather together and play World of Warcraft in the only room in the house that receives WiFi signal: Adam's. But we managed to entertain ourselves the the 360 in the other room. ;)
I have also lately had Piano Man stuck in my head, as one of my friends here has decided to learn how to play it, and practices constantly during meal-time hours. Could be worse though, at least I like the song.

Studying...D:
That's right, that's most of what I did today...study. And let me tell you, that grammar book, got old REALLY fast...it reviewed EVERYTHING!!! And I do mean EVERYTHING!!! From nouns and verbs...so far I've only gotten as far as pronouns before I completed the required reading. I'm not going any farther until I have to.
And now I'm about to read from my creative writing book and my literature book. Hopefully they'll prove more interesting.

Cabbage...
So I don't think I'm going to get a part... :( But thanks to a few good friends (one of which is another student here) I'm not feeling as bad...I still miss ACT I's more objective approach to casting, though...
I had cabbage with dinner tonight...which was awesome...
And then there was a game of Capture the Flag in the soccer bowl, which does act like a bowl after the last two days of rain...I slipped and fell twice in the mud. Needless to say, my pants are soaked and muddy and covered in grass. But hey, what can you do? Tomorrow is probably going to consist of primarily studying. Alot of reading, but it should be mostly painless, if I can get myself to do it. I'm still not getting much better at pool, unfortunately.

Lit and History
Today was a fairly light day as far as classes are concerned, but I'm still trying to figure out which books go with which classes, so I grabbed every text book I had that said Literature or History or Civilization...and of course these were my largest and heaviest books...story of my life, eh?
My Lit professor is rather...spastic and ADD, which makes it interesting. We were going around the room saying our names, where we were from, and what our favorite movie was, and she commented on each one, sometimes taking off on a random tangent. Like when we analyzed Dark Knight and compared Batman's situation in that movie to Jesus. If you're curious as to how we did that, just ask, I'll tell you, but I don't feel like doing that here and now.
My History professor was the most organized professor so far, but it wasn't too bad. I think I'll still be able to enjoy the class, especially since this semester is only covering from ancient civilization to early medieval period. Anything after that not pertaining to the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, WWII is not interesting to me. And yes, I realize that those are all wars. What can I say? I find battle interesting, and other than that, history after the middle ages is all politics, and I hate politics with a passion.
Callbacks for "A Doll's House" are tonight, and I think there's going to be a pick-up game of either Ultimate Frisbee or Soccer tonight in the bowl...oh, and I am learning Geometry this year via the pool hall in the Student Center. ;) Hopefully I'll get better.

Auditions
So I auditioned for a show with the college today, and I think that I did pretty well. For those of you who saw/were in Narnia, I used the monologue from the "party" scene right before Peter's lucky victory. The show is called "A Doll's House", and there are only three male parts, and five guys auditioned, and I heard those casting say that some of the guys had scheduling conflicts. I have a callback tomorrow, but I'll have to miss a minor league baseball game, so it's my first sacrifice for the theater while in college. But it's worth it. Anyway, other than that, not much to report. I'm wishing I'd brought Rock Band with me, and my tab book, because I'm trying to write a song...
First day of classes begins
So today was the start of classes, and honestly it was not what I expected at all. Both classes that I had today, Advanced Freshmen English and Intro to Creative Writing, were very laid back, and the professors weren't stuffy, straight-laced guys in suits standing in front of fifty students talking for hours. The feel was very light, and I can't wait until Tuesday when I have those classes again. Basically, both classes were just getting to know the professors and getting an overview of the semester.
I also went to the first meeting of the local Theater Honors Society, Alpha Psi Omega, which is a nationally recognized Theater Honors Society that was created at Belhaven in the thirties. Membership is based on involvement in the theater program at Belhaven.
Later today I'll be auditioning for the school's production of "A Doll's House", but I'm not sure how that's going to go, as there are three male parts available, and I have no idea how many people are going to come out and audition.
Anyhow, that's my day thus far, and apart from the audition, the only thing else that I've got is a mandatory residence hall meeting at nine. More forthcoming either later tonight or tomorrow.

First entry
So I just thought that I'd start writing my experiences in college so my friends back home can keep track of how I'm doing, etc. First real post should be forthcoming this Thursday after classes start.
